Notes

[NI0095] Maud Rushing or Lynch
Her Son L.D. or Eldy Nelson worked for Edward Franklin Rushing In Ojo Caliente, New Mexico at the Mercantile store until he got into a fight at a dance and stabbed a man. He left New Mexico to avoid prosecution for the stabbing. [Source: memory of Marie Norma Rushing Jan. 2001]

[NI0101] Marie Norma Rushing's remembers Granny Lynch wore heavily starched white sun-bonnets and chewed tobacco from a brown bottle. Granny would have her cut "the toothbrushes" from the "sweet gum trees" which granny would use to get the tobacco out of the bottle to her mouth. She also remembered getting her hand swatted for touching granny's starched white sun bonnet with her dirty hands while Granny Lynch was fishing, and that granny caught "great big catfish". She added with a chuckle that "...she was a good fisherman..." and "...I guess she was kinda' mean...". [21 March 2000]

[NI0102] She married her sister's husband's brother, which made her sister also her sister-in-law and the same relationship for the brothers. The brothers were also their respective brothers in law. Their children called themselves double cousins and held this relationship very special and close.

[NI0106] Children (all born in Tishomingo Co., Mississippi) of Neal and Sarah were:
1. Eliza Jane, b1836; marr 1st. M. C. George; 2nd. Obediah Stephenson.
2. James, b1838.
3. Henry, 1839.
4. Mary Ann, 1841; married Obediah Stephenson after her sister, Eliza Jane died.
5. Sarah Elizabeth, 1842; marr Giles Rhinhart.
6. Robert F. Morrison, Sr., 1844; marr. Laura Elisabeth Houston.
7. Marcus, 1847.
8. Nancy, 1850.

[NI0109] Hattie Rushing or Lynch could be a glitch in Grandmothers memory having the same name as her mother. Grandmother had called her Hattie Beard which could only have been the mother.

[NI0112] Lelia's grave marker, a small wooden cross with her name, was gone when we visited in July, 2000. It should be the second or third from the north fence bordering the arroyo in the row of mostly 1925 graves. A permanent marker was supposed to have been placed in the 1980's or 80's but we could not find it.
The washed out graves had been moved further south, her's was not among the washouts.
