[NI1729] 2989. JOHN TILGHMAN, son of John (2985) and Rosanna (Tapper) Tilghman, was b. Feb. 2, 1731, in Somerset County, Maryland, and d. 1830, in Bullock County, Georgia. He m. 1774, Sarah Eggarton, who was b. 1760, and d. 1845. On Mar. 24, 1747, he was a member of the Somerset County Unit of the Maryland Colonial Militia. He moved to Wilmington, Craven County, North Carolina, where, on Nov. 12, 1776, he was a State Representative from Craven County in the Provincial Congress of that State. Later he was a Major and Colonel, of the North Carolina Militia from Newbern and Wilmington Districts.

JOHN TILLMAN, son of John (1109) and Rosanna (Tapper) Tilghman, was born
February 2, 1731 in Somerset County, Maryland, and died 1830 in Bullock County,
Georgia. The records of the Maryland Historical Society, show that on March 24, 1747 he
was serving with the Somerset County unit of the Maryland Militia. On page 1172, Vol. 16,
of the North Carolina State Records, it is shown that he enlisted July 1, 1777 with Heron's
Company, 10th North Carolina Regiment, for service in the Revolutionary War. This record
is also found on page 167 of the "Roster of Soldiers from North Carolina in the American
Revolution." Mr. Tillman married about 1774 Sarah Eggarton (or Erggarton), who was born
1760 and died 1845. Issue: James, born November 16, 1776, John, born 1777, Mary,
born 1780, who married March 4, 1800 Henry Simmons: Elizabeth, born 1781, who
married March 12, 1801 William Rushing: Nancy, born 1782, who married June 22, 1811
Daniel Simmons: Henry, born February 22, 1790, and Joseph Isaiah, born January 6, 1792.
