Glen Richard Rushing

Glen Richard Rushing, Newkirk resident, died Saturday afternoon, May 24, 2003 at his home. He was 60.

The son of Glen Clayton and Minnie Belle (Woodard) Rushing, he was born January 19, 1943 in Oklahoma City. He grew up and received his education in Oklahoma City, attending Capitol Hill High School.

On Dec. 4, 1962 he and Nelda Ruth May were married in Davis, OK. They established their home in Oklahoma City where he worked as a carpenter. Mrs. Rushing died in 1969. Later he owned and operated his own mechanic shop servicing Fiats. Glen and Donna Reynolds were married in Oklahoma City and made their home there.

In 1993, he made his home with his daughter and her family in Oklahoma City. They moved to Newkirk in 1996, and he began employment with Kaw Bingo in 2001.

He attended the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Blue Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, and anything outdoors.

He is survived by four sons, Glen Allen Rushing, Richard Dale Rushing, John Clayton Rushing and Robert Wayne Rushing, all of the Oklahoma City area; two
daughters, Reda Renee Psikal of Newkirk and Neva Jean Rushing of Oklahoma City; and 11 grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Nelda, he was preceded in death by his parents. His funeral was held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 28 in the Newkirk First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sarah Parker officiating. Graveside rites were at 2:00 P.M. in Memorial Gardens, Oklahoma City.

Those serving as casket bearers were Daniel Koelsch, Demetrius Rushing, Richard Rushing, Clay Rushing, Rusty Randol and Lanio Roberts. Honorary bearers were Jeff Psikal, Clinton Scott and Glen A. Rushing.

Miller-Stahl Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Those wishing to contribute to the memorial fund in Rushing's memory may do so through Bank of Oklahoma, 110 South Main, Newkirk 74647.

[NI3380] All Rushings buried in the Old Zion Cemetery in Pope County are assumed to be the family of this Abraham. Note four deaths in ten days. I personally think this Abraham is a better fit for the family of Peter Rushing than the Abraham born in 1808. -David Donahue, 1994

If Abraham is not the sixth son of Peter, who is? is there a better fit for Abraham? do you have another idea? Click here- please write.

I am the great-great grandson of Holden Rushing, born in 1802 in Anson
County North Carolina, and the great grandson of Robert H. Rushing, also
born in Anson County, in about 1827 or 1829. I know and am aware of
Holden immigrating to Decatur County, TN., then immigrated to Jackson
County, IL., where he is buried in Jonesboro Cemetery.

If you are interested I have the obituary of him when he died in 1878.

I do not have any information on the death of my great grandfather,
Robert H., or where he is buried. He had immigrated from TN., to Jackson
County with my great-grandmother, Johanna. She was cremated, upon her
death. So maybe this is what happened to him, as I can find no records
of burial. We know they immigrated to Illinois in about 1853, as that is
when my grandfather, Robert Whitfied Rushing was born, on route, in
Kentucky, in January.

I understand my great-grandmother, Johanna, was born in Williamson
County, TN., but can not find any records of her in that county. I
assume she and my great-grandfather were married in TN., then came to
Illinois.

Also, what we are wondering if there any Indian heritage on the Rushing
side of the family. From pictures and what I remember of my Dad and my
uncles, there seems to be a strong Indian likeness about all of them.

Thanking you for any information.

Sincerely, HAROLD L. RUSHING
