Notes

[NI4918] Alfred Rushing served in Co. E, 5th Tennessee Infantry, C.S.A. He died in service. He was a well-to-do tobacco farmer. The 1860 census does not seem to show children for him.
CENSUS: 1860, Benton Co., TN, page 88, Rushing, Alfred 39, Rebecca 33, W. O. HERRON 25 (m), J. R. DAVIDSON 21 (m), A. S. COREST 21 (m), John H. Rushing 28.

[NI4921] 2nd Lieutenant, Company E, 5th Tennessee, Infantry, C.S.A. [Taproots: A Virginia & Carolina Legacy]

[NI4925] In "Taproots: A Virginia & Carolina Legacy," author Paul R. White, Sr. includes Darling B. Rushing as a son of Richard B. Rushing and first wife Matilda. In the 1850 census this Darling Rushing is in the household of R. (Roland) and Zilpha Rushing. Zilpha would be his aunt. This is not the Darling Rushing who married Minerva Cathey. Also, the name Darling would seen to be more appropriate for a son of Roland Rushing as the other Darling Rushings have connections to the family of Phillip J. Rushing.

[NI4947] Carroll Rushing. Born, circa 1826, in TN. Census: 1850, in Decatur Co., TN. He married Jane. Carrol Rushing is assigned here as a son of Daniel by default. He is not on the list of children of Isaac in the Louisiana probate record for the estate of Isaac Rushing. He is not on the deed which lists the children of Elijah Rushing. The younger Richard does not seem to have children born before 1830. He is not claimed by descendants of Burrell as part of Burrell's family. He is not on John Bateman Rushing's lists of children of Jason Rushing and Asa Rushing. He is not listed as a brother in the settlement of the estate of Enoch Deason Rushing, son of David Rushing.

[NI4951] Caswell Rushing's placement in the family of Burrell Rushing and Mary Rhodes is speculative.

[NI4963]
Andrew Jackson Rushing enlisted in the Confederate Army at Dover (Fort Donelson), TN, in 1862. He served in Company I, 50th Tennessee Infantry. He was captured at Fort Donelson on 2 February 1862 and sent as a prisoner to Camp Douglas, Illinois. He was discharged 10 Oct. 1862.

Andrew Jackson Rushing and his son, Phillip, died within two hours of each other of Yellow Fever. They were buried in the same grave.
