Notes

[NI6679] Martha is mentioned as the mother of the Rushen children but in the marriage record from Clare Church William? Rushin is in the record as marrying a Mathew Harvey on 25 Apr 1616. Somehow this Mathew Harvey must be Martha? This is so typical of researching this family that name Mathew seems to pop up at the most unexpected times and places and often confusing the records.

[NI6680] Notes for William Rushing: In 1565 William was Christened at Clare Church. He is also listed as father for the children listed in this family on their respective Christenings at Clare Church. (Anglican [protestant])

As you see the spelling variations for family members makes the records difficult to find together. Most search engines use a system similar to Soundex where some fall in R250 and others in R252 or R255(Rushen, Rushing, Russin). Peter Rushing of England has a one name study Web site at: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/rushenfamily/suffchrist.htm. He lists these names in a table format and the families ar much easier to see this way. You can also write to the Archdioces for Suffolk.

[NI6682] In the book "Able Men of Suffolk", William & John Rushen were militiamen for Clare in the Hundred of Risbridge in the year 1638. In 1648 Colchester was put under siege by the Roundheads. On August 28th the Royalists surrendered & the prisoners were marched to the south coast ports, put on boats and sent as slaves to the West Indies.

This John Rushen appears to have married and had children in England at Clare Church after these events.

History of The Old Cheraws. by Gregg, Alexander 1819-1893 published 1867; Repository: The South Caroliniana Library, University of South Carolina, Columbia.

"In March 1748 ... About the same time was presented the petition of John Rushing, stating that he had come from Virginia with a wife and one child, and had made a settlement in the Welsh Tract on Thompson's Creek. A grant of 150 acres was made to him."

[NI6757] This Sherwood apparently did not go to Alabama with his father and brothers.

[NI6761] James Rushing fought in the Revolutionary War.

[NI6762] This William would probably not have been one of the two in the 1790 Anson County, NC Federal Census. Too old and possibly already moved to Georgia.

From "The North Carolinian" Vol. 1, No. 2, page 696. All marriage Bonds of Anson County were destroyed by fire in 1868, however, preserved in the Archives in Raleigh (File No. 5001) is a marriage bond dated 1762.
