Notes

[NI7460] Notes for William Rushing the emigrant:

The first William Rushen son of William Rushen, Jnr. died in Suffolk in 1618. This is his second son also named William Russhin of the same parents, a look at the Clare church burials sometimes reveals why there were multiple Christenings of children with the same given name in the same family. This William Rushen was Christened at Clare Church in Suffolk County, England on 20 May 1625. Some family histories will have 20 May 1625 as his birth date.

This second William is the one that became a Royalist rebel, was captured in 1648 by Roundheads and sent to America. [see the pages on the origins of our Rushing surname and The Rushing Brothers article] Although this William Rushen would have been too young to have been the one listed in ABLE MEN OF SUFFOLK in 1638 (That was probably his father along with his brother John Rushen) he would have been old enough in 1648 and the right age to to be the one listed in Virginia, USA records. This William's father would have been way too old to have been the one of Virginia record who died in 1678.

[NI7543] notes for Jefferson Davis Rushing:
RUSHING CEMETERY
Stewart County, TN

Grave Markers
Rushing, Jefferson Davis, July 10, 1861 - January 9, 1941
Rushing, Eunice V. Knight, 1865 - June 27, 1929

[NI7558] William Rushing the first son of William Rushin, Jnr. and Martha died as an infant and they named the next born son William also. The surname Rushing for this child was taken from his death/ burial record, it is spelled Rushin in his Christening records. Daniell and Elizabeth also died as babys the Christening records also show the next daughter after Daniell dies Christened with the name Daniell.

William was born in the year the calendars were changed and that is why the double year of death and why his records show him dead before he was born. My program Family Tree Maker will not accept a date between January and April 1618 because those dates never happened. The program changes any date in 1618 to 1617/1618 as you see. William's records show him Christened on 27 Oct 1618 and died: 27 Jan 1618, before he was born because of the skipped days in this year. ["Leap Days" after all January shouldn't have been in the Spring, there were no leap years before this and the seasons were getting out of hand.] The only way I can get this past all my mistake checking software is to make his birth year 1617 but this is not correct nor that important since he died as a baby.

Martha and William Christened thier next son William Rushen on 20 May 1625. This second William is the one that became a Royalist then captured by Cromwell and sent to America.

[NI7567] Joseph Robert Rushing and Margaret Fitzpatrick were the parents of twelve children.
