I have run across some confusing information on the parentage of James Perry Rushing 1860-1912. All evidence points to his parents as Alvin T Rushing and Jemima Horn of Kennedy Lamar/Fayette County Alabama. However I recently acquired his death certificate and my Grandmother who provided the information lists his parents as John Rushing and Mary Trull of Kennedy Alabama. I have been unable to locate John and Mary Rushing in Lamar or Fayette County in Alabama in 1850 or 1860 census. James Perry appears in 1970 census as Alvin and Jemima's son. Does anyone have any information on a John
Rushing or Mary Trull in Northwest Alabama in the 1850's/1860's?

JOHN CARTIER, M.D. took his bride to Saw Dust, McNairy County, Tennessee by 1839. McNairy County at that time was covered in native cane standing twenty feet tall that stretched from horizon to horizon. They lived in the area of Purdy and Gravelhill, until the Civil War began. John reportedly moved to Missouri during the war in protest and was never heard from again. He had sons named Henry, James, and John Jr. John Jr. married Elizabeth Jane Rushing who was the daughter of Richard and Anna Rushing.

RICHARD RUSHING was born in North Carolina in 1799. He was in Alabama by 1828. He moved to Tennessee before 1839. Evidence suggests North Carolina produced several RUSHING families who moved to Alabama and to Tennessee between 1820 and 1860.

John Carter and Elizabeth Rushing had eleven children in McNairy County. Richard Rushing also had eleven children. Many of those children were born and married in McNairy County. Birth and marriage records were lost in a fire that consumed the courthouse in 1860. ©

The Carters wer amoung the first Rushing descendants to reach New Mexico other Richard Rushing descendants would migrate to New Mexico by Arkansas, Texas and then New Mexico as did other McNairy County, Tennessee Rushings including the descendants of Larkin Rushing.

[NI7822] I first met Jeff Rushing in 1979 At the arcade he ran in the Winrock Mall shopping center In Albuquerque. I worked as a video game and juke box repairman at that time, I had heard of him before that because his name was the same as my brother's and we both grew up in Albuquerque. About a year before his death Jeff called and told me a lot about his family because of the Rushing Web site. Sadly the computer hard drive was lost to failure and the information along with it. Jeff's extended Rushing family comes from Southern New Mexico.

If you knew Jeffrey Anthony Rushing or any of his family please contact me at Rushings.info or phone 505-293-7559 so that his ancestry can be completed.

[NI7838] Looking For Rushings from Pike Co. MS.

My ggrandfather was James Martin Rushing. He was born 3 June 1871 in Pike Co. MS. His brothers were John, Monroe, George and Tom. He had a sister whose name started with an E. According to family history they were all illegitimate. For some reason their parents couldn't marry. Supposedly the parents of my ggrandfather Rushing were a Mary and a Samuel Rushing. Am anxious for any info. Thanks

From: Patricia M Hoefer

Dear Dan,
Thank you for your reply. The Monroe Rushing I'm trying to find was
born about 1874 somewhere in Mississippi. His full name was Monroe
Pleasant Rushing. He had at least one brother named James Martin Rushing
who lived in Lincoln County Mississippi in 1910 and 1920. There were
other brothers and one sister. Each of these kids said their father was
a Sam Rushing and that their mother was a Mary Robbins. From the little
I have been able to learn, this couple was never married, but they
managed to have at least five or six children together. On the 1880
census index I found an S. Rushing as head of household with his sister,
Mary, and several children listed as step children. This may be the
family, but it makes no sense to me. They are also in Pike County
Mississippi.
Monroe married Georgiana and they had several children one of which was
Otto Pleasant Rushing. He married my grandmother's sister. My cousin
knows very little about Otto except his name and that he was born in
Louisiana. I have found his father, Monroe Pleasant Rushing in 1910 and
1920 in Iberville Parish Louisiana, but I cannot find him in 1900 or in
1880 with his parents. It's very frustrating to be so close and not be
able to make the connection. I want to surprise her with as much
information as I can about her grandfather's family. I have lots of info
on her grandmother's family.
Thank you so much for your help. I keep looking and maybe find what I
need one of these days. But I think I will look at this other Monroe
that you have and see if I can find anything that might be of help.

I'm doing some genealogy work for a cousin. Her great grandfather was supposedly Sam Rushing and her ggrandmother was Mary Robbins b. 1842 d. 1888. On some census reports the children were listed as his stepchildren so we are wondering if Mary had illigitimate children before marrying Sam or if she and Sam were never married. If she was married before, who was the biological father of the children listed below:

The sons were:
John b. 1868; James Martin b. 1871; Pleasant Monroe b. 1874; Tom b. 1877 d. Nov. 30, 1950 Brookhaven, MS

Their daughter was my cousin's grandmother, Mary Ella Rushing "Ella" b. Dec. 24, 1876 d. Aug 13, 1943. She is buried in Kilbourne, LA.

Ella first married a "Youngblood" and secondly she married Charles Newton Irby. My cousin's (JoAnn Irby Hughes)father was their son Charles Lanoir Irby. He married JoAnn's mother and my aunt, Maude Adams. All of this took place somewhere in the Brookhaven, MS, vicinity.

All clues appreciated. http://genforum.genealogy.com/rushing/messages/2043.html
