Hi Dan,
Good to hear from you. I don't know why you weren't able to receive the
GEDCOM I emailed you. It seemed to upload okay. Here I'm transmitting it
again. I hope it'll be of use to you. Let me know if you think of my data,
and whether you think my William Rushing is one of those two Williams that
you have listed as sons of Matthew.
There are many Rushings in Mississippi and East Texas that are descendants of
Rev. John Rushing (my 4X-great-grandfather), and I've been in contact with
several of them. Where are you from?
Thanks.

My grandmother was born Edna Gertrude Rushing, and is a descendant of
Willis Rushing who settled in Benton Co., TN. I have been doing
research on the Rushings for a while, and would like to send you my
information. In what format would you like it, and how would you prefer
I caveat my speculations regarding the descent from Mathew Rushing (of
Isle of Wight Co., VA and Chowan Precinct, NC)?
Sincerely,
Anneliese Kennedy

ELIHU GARNER WHATLEY [died March 16, 1936], married: T. Ann OTWELL, Jul 02 1884 in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. They had fourteen children and neither had any other spouses or children according to the sucession document. Elihu Garner Whatley b. April 19, 1854 in LaSalle Parish, LA d. March 16, 1936, son of Enoch Whatley b.1810 and (Susan?) Garner b. 1824, is reputed to be 1/8 Native American. He married Annie (Cynthia Anne) Otwell, b. August 1869 d. April 6, 1956, daughter of Isaac Mitchell Otwell b. in Mississippi and Martha Jane Mayo b. in Louisiana, is reputed to be about 1/6 Native American. I beleive that Martha is the Native American link, and that she was part Cherokee.
They had 15[sic] children. They owned land (100 acres) in Jena, LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, and he was an ordained Baptitst minister.
Census: 1850, Catahoula Par. LA. page: 62 dwelling: 208 Family: 217, documents Elihu's parents (Josephine's grandparents) prior to his birth as Enoch and Susan Whatley.
