Neely (Alec) Rushing, age 84, of Kingsland, died Friday June 16, 1995, at
the Dallas County Hospital in Fordyce Arkansas. He was a retired logger.
Born at Leola (Grant County), Arkansas on February 24, 1911, he was the
sone of the late William Andrew Rushing and Emma Rhodes Rushing. Mr.
Rushing was a member of Kingsland First Baptist Church. He was preceded in
death by his first wife Geraldine Mooney Rushing, a sister Ollie Rushing
Price, three brothers, Jack Rushing, William (Tom) Rushing, Tellis (Dick)
Rushing. Survivors include his wife, Helen McFarland Woolley McManus
Rushing; three daughters, Reba Rushing Kauffman of Little Rock, Betty
Rushing Wilson of San Antonio, Texas, Carolyn Rushing Wallace of Fordyce;
three brothers A. B. Rushing of Pine Bluff, Henry Rushing of McMinnville,
Oregon, and A. J. Rushing of Altanta, Ga.; a sister Rachel Rushing Shelby
of Monroe, La, nine grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren, and three
great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday morning, June
19, 1995 at the chapel of Buie Funeral Home of Rison, Arkansas, conducted
by Bro Gene Murdock & Bro J. C. Singleton. Burial was in Kingsland
Cemetery, with Buie Funeral Home of Rison in charge of the arrangements.

Geneva Louise McDaniel Cox Rushing, 62, of Sheridan, died Thursday at St. Vincnt Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born January 21, 1928, at Guy (Faulkner County), she was a daughter of the late Willie and Opha Stracener McDaniel. A retired waitress, she was a member of Immanuel
Missionary Bapist Church at Sheridan, Arkansas. Survivors includes her husband, Tellas D. (Dick) Rushing of Sheridan. seven sons, J. R. Cox of Mountain View, Doug Cox of Benton, Mitchell Cox of Heber Springs, Bill Rushing of Woodlawn, Thomas Rushing of Pine Bluff, Tellas Ray Rushing of Sherrill and Richard Rushing of Raleigh, North Carolina, five daughters, Ruby Herring of Woodlawn, Pat Smurl of Bryant, Brenda Clemons and Ann Tom, borth of Houston, Texas, Connie Simpson of Conway, three sisters, Juanita Jamison and Diane Morphis both of Dermont, and Syble Calhoun of Monticello, 30 grandchildren, and a great grandchild.

Funeral servies will be at 2 PM today at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church of Sheridan with Revs. Harold Epperson & John E. Owen officiating. Burial well be in Lost Creek Cemetery by Buie Funeral Home of Sheridan.

Helen Woolley McManus Rushing, 77, of Woodlawn, died April 16, 1998 at
Jefferson Regional Medical Center of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was born on
August 13, 1920, at Okolona (Clark County), Arkansas. A daughter of the
late William Jess McFarland and Mary Elizabeth Ethel Key McFarland. She eas
a retired licensed practical nurse and a member of Mt. Olivet United
Methodist Church at Calmer. She was preceded in dealth by her first
husband, Olen Woolley; her second husband, Horace McManus, and her third
husband Neely (Alec) Rushing. Sirvivors include six sons, James Woolley,
William Paul Woolley, J. L. Woolley, Robert Woolley and David Woolley all
of Woodlawn, and Charles Woolley of Sarepta, Louisiana; two daughters,
Elizabeth Robertson of Star City, and Sylvia Boyd of Woodlawn; 18
grandchildren. and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 pm
today at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church with Bros. Johnnie Brewster,
Rusy Jones, William Paul woolley and Charles Woolley officiating. Burial
will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery North of Woodlawn community, Cleveland
County, by Buie Funeral Home of Rison in charge of the arrangement.

Donald Lee Rushing, age 36 of 8130 Highway 70 South, Pine Bluff, Arkansas died Saturday, October 26, 1996, at his home. He was a machine operator at Century Tube. He attended Pleasant Home Missionary Baptist Church. Born in Jefferson County on June 11, 1960, he was the son of A. B. Rushing, Jr. and
Margie Sipes Rushing both of Pine Bluff. Other survivors include two sons, Josh Rushing and Houston Rushing, two daughters Brittiany Rushing and Heather Rushing, three brothers, Jimmy Rushing, Carl Rushing, and Tim Rushing, a sister, Debra Rushing, and a grandfather A. B. Rushing, Sr. all of Pine Bluff, Arkanas. Funeral services wereheld Tuesday afternoon, October 29, 1996 in the chapel of Hale-South Funeral Home in Pine Bluff, with Bro Sammy Alverson officating. Burial was in Rowell cemetery (Cleveland County) with Hale-South Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

J. E. Shelby, 67 of Monroe, Louisiana, died Tuesday at his home his home. Born June 28, 1924, in Rison, Arkansas, he was the son of Austin Shelby and Inez Holderfield Shelby. He was a Navy veteran of WW II, a member of Rowland Road Baptist Church of Monroe, and a retired ice cream sales manager with Borden, Inc. of Monroe. Surivors include his wife Rachel Rushing Shelby, of Monroe, a son Ronnie Shelby, of Monroe, a daughter, Sandra Shelby Cloud of Fort Smith, four sisters, Opal Shelby Spakes and
Frances (Frankie) Shelby Rushing McCoullough of Pine Bluff, Merlene Shelby Schlafom of Little Rock, and Barabar Shelby Atwood of Rison and seven grandson. Funeral services are schedule for 10 AM Thursday at Rowland Road Bapitst Church at Monroe, with Bro. Adrian Jordan officiating. Burial will
be in Prosperity Cemetery at Herbine (Cleveland County) Arkansas at 3 PM,
Thursday by Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.

James Arthur Rushing

Family and friends will gather to share stories of James Arthur Rushing and celebrate his eight-five years of life at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 at W. W. Rix Chapel followed by a committal service at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.

He died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006.

James Arthur was born near Blue Ridge, Texas, on Sept. 24, 1920. Jay graduated from Celeste High School in 1938. At that time he lived in Kingston, where he organized an amateur theater troupe. He attended Draughn's Business College in Dallas in the late 1930s, accumulating many tales of boarding house life and establishing a lifelong fondness for Big D. He held a variety of jobs in the Dallas area during the late Depression years. In 1942 he worked briefly as a driller's helper at the Puget Sound Navy Yard. He then served as an operations clerk in the Army Air Force, with stints in Newark, NJ, and various bases in England and France. After the war Jay attended Southern Methodist University, receiving a B.S. in Journalism and an M.A. in English. In the fall of 1952, he was hired as an instructor at Texas Tech. His first day of work there marked the beginning of a 32 year relationship with Texas Tech and a 45 year relationship with Jane Gilmore, whom he married in 1956. Jane preceded Jay in death, July 4, 1997. Jay did graduate work at the University of Tennessee in the late 1950s, before returning to teach in the English Department at Texas Tech until his retirement in 1984.

Jay is survived by his son, James Rushing, Jr., of Medford Lakes, NJ, and his wife Beth, and two grandsons, Samuel and Peter. He also leaves a sister, Dana Griffin, of Phoenix, Arizona.

Memorial tributes honoring James Arthur Rushing and his family may be given to the American Lung Association at 61 Broadway in New York, New York 10006, www.lungusa.org.

[NI8364] Jane Gilmore Rushing was a teacher, reporter, and novelist. was born in 1925 in Pyron, Texas. She received her B.A.(1945) in journalism from Texas Technological College and her M.A. (1957) and Ph.D. (1974) in English from Texas Tech University. She married James Rushing in 1956. Jane Rushing taught in public schools and worked briefly as a reporter for the Abilene Reporter-News. Her published works include: Walnut Grove (1964), Against the Moon (1968), Tamzen (1972), Mary Dove (1974), Raincrow (1977), Convenant of Grace (1982), and Winds of Blame (1983). Also co-authored, with Kline Nall, Evolution of a University: Tech's First Fifty Years (1975), and contributed to Early Ranching in West Texas (1986). She has garnered several literary awards.

Jane Rushing

Private services for Jane Rushing, 71, of Lubbock will be under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

She died Friday, July 4, 1997, in Lubbock.

She was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Pyron. She moved to Lubbock in 1952. She married James Arthur Rushing on Nov. 29, 1956, in Lubbock.

She was a writer and a teacher.

Survivors include her husband; a son, James Arthur Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd St., Lubbock 79423.

I am the First Son of David Vernon Rushing.
I was looking for my family history when I discovered this wonderful web site!
Oh how wonderful to see my family far away, yet seem so close by such things as this web site.
Oh how I hope we can get to know each other in some fashion. My Mother is Martha Constance
Smith, and my Father is David Vernon Rushing. I have many things I can tell you about my family
and we can continue to have the Rushing family website flourish.
My aunt is Helen Jones. And she wrote a book on Mathew Rushing Descendents. My Grandfather's
name is Drew K Rushing, and my Grandmother is Suzie Rushing (Counsell).
I hope to hear from you soon as we can exchange information and learn many things from each
other.
