Dow, Mary, Willie, Walter and Burl were born in Arkansas; then Sam, Pearl, Bob and Claud born in Texas then Dolley, Frank and Clarance were born in Indian Territory. Meaning they moved from Arkansas to Texas bet. 1882-1884 then from Texas to Oklahoma (Indian Territory) bet. 1890-1892.

Louise Clay, 77, of Tool, was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Corsicana to the late Richard Louis Rushing and Susie Bell (Knight) Rushing and passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in Athens.

The family received friends at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank Saturday, June 1, 2002, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Mrs. Clay retired from being a hostess at DFW Airport in 1985, and worked at Dobbs House.

Survivors include sons, Russ D. Clay and wife, Jill, of Carrolton, Melvin Russell Clay Jr. and wife, Amy, of Tool; daughters, Berla Louise Caster and husband, Bill, of Hurst, Lee Suzzan Meisenheimer and husband, Carter, of Burleson, Leba Jane Fleshman and husband, Richard, of Longmont, Colo.; sister, Ruby Elizabeth Truxel of Weatherford; and brother, William Jack Rushing and wife, Rita, of Dearborn Heights, Mich.

Earl Rushing, 68

Earl Rushing of the Pleasant Grove community died March 24 at his home there. He was born in Walton County Nov. 22, 1937, to Edward and Vera Garner Rushing.

Rushing was a life-long resident of Walton County. He was Baptist by faith and a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He owned and operated a logging business. He served in the Army National Guard for more than nine years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Rushing.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Julia Rushing of the Pleasant Grove community; two sons, Greg Rushing and wife, Tina, of Glendale and Jesse W. Rushing of Pleasant Grove community; six brothers, Herbert Rushing and wife, Myrtle, of Ponce de Leon, Melvin Rushing of Freeport, Fulton Rushing and wife, Evelyn, Wendell Rushing and wife, Jackie, Travis Rushing and wife, Glenda, Larry Rushing and wife, Fran, all of Ponce de Leon; one sister, Ethel Sassnett and husband, Max, of Ponce de Leon; one sister-in-law, Von Rushing, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services were held March 26 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Dixon officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery with Clary-Glenn Funeral Home of DeFuniak Springs in charge of arrangements.

Joe Clayborn Dyer

The funeral service for Joe Clayborn Dyer will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hillcrest Chapel. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park's Crownpoint Garden.

Mr. Dyer, 77, of Phoenix, died Thursday (Jan. 10, 2002) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Coleman, Texas, a son of Pharoah and Lovey Dyer. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1933 from California. On Feb. 2, 1950, in Reno, Nev., he married LaVeniua "Vinnie" Rushing, who survives.

Mr. Dyer was a heavy equipment operator for Boise Cascade in Central Point. He retired in 1986.

During World War II, he served three years with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Fleet.

Mr. Dyer enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Ronnie Lee, Muskogee, Okla.; a daughter, Sally Wallman, Redding, Calif.; a brother, Booth, Butte Falls; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Robinson; and a brother, Tommey Robinson.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

[NI9072] Jacob Rushing's parents are unknown it seems clear he from Franklin County Mississippi and related to the Matthew Rushing descendants of South Mississippi. One of his children's death certificates (Elizabeth "Betty) lists his birth place as Georgia and another child (Joseph Calvin) as unknown. The 1998 Addendum to Helen Jones book "Matthew Rushing Descendants in South Mississippi" suggests Jacob Rushing is an unproven son of Matthew Rushing and Sarah Howell (Harrell), page 27.

[NI9185] J. C. Seph Thomas Rushing never married.

[NI9234] Walter Harris Rushing & Mary Woodson had no children.
